The Challenge
The original backyard was narrow and constrained by a substantial drop along the perimeter. Creating more usable space required more than replacing surface materials: the grade, support system, elevations, and transitions had to be resolved before the finished layout could be installed.
The Solution
After demolition and grading, LDC rebuilt the usable footprint with reinforced retaining walls and coordinated structural concrete work. New elevations were established so the large-format porcelain pavers, curved turf areas, access points, and perimeter conditions would function together as one complete system.
Retaining Walls & Structural Work
The retaining walls made the expanded backyard possible. Reinforcement, concrete, drainage, and elevation control were completed before the visible finishes, providing the support required for the redesigned space and its long-term performance.
Porcelain Hardscape
Large-format porcelain pavers create a clean, contemporary surface around the home. The installation required careful layout, consistent alignment, and controlled transitions through a custom curved plan rather than a conventional rectangular patio.
Premium Artificial Turf
The turf was selected as a premium, low-maintenance solution for a drought-conscious California landscape. UV-stable fibers and pet-safe infill support everyday use, while the curved layout softens the porcelain hardscape and gives the backyard a more natural flow.
Finished Result
The completed backyard feels larger, more open, and better connected to the home. Structural walls, concrete transitions, porcelain pavers, premium turf, and black iron fencing now read as one cohesive outdoor environment—not as separate improvements added at different times.
